Halloween 2011

We were getting pretty excited about Halloween at our house about 2 days ago! (Ok, longer than that, but when I finally broke out the costumes--Holy Cow! They were soo excited!) Jacob was able to borrow a costume (thank you, Denise!!) and went as Commander Cody from Star Wars. He wanted to be a Star Wars character so this worked out perfectly! Aleigha wanted to be a Tooth Fairy Princess, first. Then she saw this dragon costume and wanted to be that. She wore that all day yesterday.

Then, this morning it was a sailor with a pirate hat. She ended up wearing the sailor costume for half the day (I even took her out in public with that on...shocker, I know. Hey, they're kids only once, right? Why not let them enjoy it!). She wanted to be a pirate and she wanted to be a princess soo.....I made a Pirate Princess costume! She looked soo cute!

Here we are: Jacob as Commander Cody, Myself as a Gypsy, Aleigha as a Pirate Princess, and Mr. Steven as a Sleepy Baby Leopard. ;)

I sure had a great evening with my kids. I took them Trick-or-Treating downtown (stopped at Time Out and hit up a couple of businesses downtown), then up to the church for some good ol' Trunk-or-Treating. Then we decided to head over to 'Candy Cane Lane' for some more loot and then a quick stop at Grammie and Poppa's to show off said loot and costumes. By the time we got home the kids were worn out! Aleigha even put HERSELF to bed!

It was so enjoyable for me, this year, to take my kids Trick-or-Treating. I just kept reliving past Halloweens from when Ri and I were kids. Man, we had soo much fun. We would always have a blast trying to figure out exactly WHAT we were going to be. And we almost ALWAYS just used what we had on hand. It was fun. Once we were ready, Mom took us to the best places in town! My favorite...drum roll...Uncle Steve and Aunt Lexi's place! We would go up and down those streets for forever! We would run from house to house, (or ride in the car from house to house, only when it was REALLY cold out did we do that) collecting our loot. When we finally made it home we would go through our loot. We would sort, trade, count, eat, and stash it.

What a wonderful night of memories being made and of reliving old ones!
I love you, Ri!! You can't believe the memories that flooded me tonight. It was awesome.

I hope and pray that everyone had a fun night of Tricking or Treating! I know I sure did! I didn't want it to end! Ha Ha! Now if only I can be more prepared for it's coming NEXT year!

Ya...sure...Uh huh...Whatever.

Lake Wenatchee Camping Trip Sept. 2009

Jon and his dad were able to take Jake camping this summer for the first time. Jake had SUCH a great time. They went on some hikes, chopped firewood (Jacob helped, too...thanks to Poppa), roasted dogs, skipped rocks (Jake learned how). After they returned home, Jake kept asking "when are we going camping with Poppa again, Dad?" He is sooo looking forward to next summer so he can go on more camping trips with them.

My Kindergartener!

Can't believe Jake is in kindergarten already! He was so excited about going to his new school. He was especially excited that his buddy Garrett was in the same class as him. He also has a few more kids in his class that he knows, one is Gunnar Allen, and a few more from his preschool class at NLCS. It was comforting to know that he wasn't going to be in a class where he didn't know anyone. Here are some pictures of that first day!

Jake's New Bed

On my birthday, I was able to go to one of my favorite stores here in town called Georgie's. It is a 2nd hand store that is clean and reasonably priced. Plus, she is negotiable on her prices! Love that! Anyways, I have been really wanting to find a new bed for Jake that is raised off the floor so that he would have more floor space to play. Soooo....they had one at Georgie's!!! It was a GREAT find. The other day, Jon and I was able to put it together. Thankfully, after a few minutes of wanting his other bed, he was excited and happy! Aleigha even loves his new bed! Imagine that, not my monkey girl! LOL

Sage-N-Sun Parade Fun

On June 13th, we were able to go to the Sage-n-Sun parade that is held every year downtown. This year the theme was "Past, Present, and Future". It was a much better parade than it has been in past years. Ephrata actually had a few floats present! Amazing!! LOL Here are some pictures of the kids that I took during the parade. The kids had a great time catching the candy that was thrown to them, and had an even BETTER time EATING it!! As usual, Jake covered his ears when the firetrucks made their way to our spot. He has done this ever since he was a baby. Definitely does NOT like loud noises! One thing that was definitely different from last year, Aleigha was not in a stroller. She was free to run* and catch all that candy! (*see picture below) I swear that girl is fearless!!
All-in-all, we had a GREAT day.

Mini Golf

On June 2nd, Jon and I took the kids mini golfing for family home evening. Jake has been DIEING to go ever since he went with Starr and Krysten last summer. We went to Oasis Park and had a great time! Jake was SOO excited--we didn't tell him where we were going--he could hardly stand still long enough to get his putter and ball! Aleigha had fun too! She was trying SOO hard to hit her ball (and Mom and Dad's, too) into the hole. Thankfully, Daddy was there to save the day! I just love the picture I got of her with Jon. Even though it is fuzzy, you can see the pure JOY she had. Love it!! Definately going to be doing this more often!

29 years

Wow....another year older and wiser too. Ok, maybe not wiser....but definitely older! This birthday has literally snuck up on me. I am grateful for this past year, but glad it has past. I have learned a lot about myself and am grateful for the lessons that I have learned. I am grateful for my family and for the love they show me and the strength they give me. I don't know where I would be without them. I am very blessed.
I am grateful that my mom gave birth to me 29 years ago and that she gave me such a wonderfully unique name. I'm very grateful for everything that she taught me.
I am grateful for my lil' sis, Ri, and baby sis, Krysten. Ri, you and I have gone through a lot and I am so grateful that you have been there for me. I love you so much and love that no matter what life brings to us we will always be sisters. I love that we are SO much alike, yet SO different. I love that we vibe off each other whenever we are together. I just love you!!
Krysten, I love that I can officially call you my sister! I love that you are apart of my family and will always be! I love that you are just as unique as the rest of us! I love that You are able to enjoy your youth the way you are MEANT to. I don't think you realize how much you are loved.
I am so grateful for my wonderful husband who puts up with all my craziness and moods. I love you and am grateful that we have eternity together! I love that we make beautiful babies. :) I love that you are such a wonderful dad. I love that you are my best friend.
I am grateful for my two wonderful kids. Even though they make me crazy, I wouldn't know what to do without them! They are my world!

Preschool Graduation!

I can't believe my little man is already done with preschool! This year has thoroughly flown by! Today was Jake's preschool graduation. They had a little ceremony and cupcakes to celebrate. His teachers, Mrs. Lee and Mrs. Faw, were wonderful! I feel very strongly that Jake was meant to be in this class. He has grown by leaps and bounds since the beginning of this year. I am so thankful that he was able to go to New Life Christian School.

Leavenworth Camping Trip with the Harris Family!

This camping trip was a lot of fun! It was wonderful to meet up with Michael and Christina and camp together. They are such AWESOME people! Here are some random pictures that I took on our trip. I wish I would have taken a BUNCH more...oh well...next time, right?

I took this picture of Aleigha on our way to Leavenworth. We stopped to get some food and she decided that instead of giving me her plug she would put it under her chin! Hilarious!

Christina, also, took this picture of our camping site. It turned out to be a pretty great spot, except for the gravel! We were lucky we really didn't have any neighbors close by. We went to downtown Leavenworth and the kids were able to play on some inflatables. They had a great time! (Another shot by Christina)
After our downtown jaunt, Jon and I took the kids back to camp, while the Harris's looked at some more shops in Leavenworth. We ended up taking the kids to the pool to cool off! It was wonderful! And the kids had a blast!

We had such a great time visiting and hanging out with the Harris's. They are such a wonderful family. We did come home a day early, not because we were on eachothers nerves, but we just felt that it would be best to do that. We were able to get some things done on Monday and hang out. It was wonderful to have that extra day to just relax at home. All-in-all, a great weekend!

Yeah, I know...I'm always posting things WAAAAY late! Need to do better about that. Anyways, my Mother's day was pretty nice. We had a great day at church and was able to get a family picture in afterwards. Jon surprised me with a CRICUT--totally not expected--that I was able to open up a few days before Mother's Day! I am SO blessed to have such a wonderful family. Love you guys!!

Retreat

On Friday, May 1st I was able to go on our semi-annual women's retreat at Ensign Ranch. It was AWESOME! A group of us left early (ok, 10 am isn't really THAT early) Friday morning and headed towards the ranch. We stopped in Ellensburg and then the outlet mall in North Bend (yes, we actually drove 45 mins PAST the ranch to do this shopping trip...DEFINATELY worth it!). It was a fun afternoon of shopping. By the time we were all done, we were ALL ready to relax and get settled in at the ranch. We had a yummy potluck dinner and then set out to working on our projects. I had so much fun visiting and laughing with everyone that I really didn't do that much with my scrapbooking (a whole whopping 3 pages!). Plus, I got MAYBE 3 hours of sleep. LOL It was SOO worth it! A much needed break. And I am SOOOO looking forward to the one in October!

Piano Tuned

So, about 2 weeks or so ago, we got our Piano tuned. This piano hasn't been tuned in at least 30 years. Anyways, Barbara and I had been talking about Jake going to piano lessons for some time now. She decided that as soon as our piano was tuned she would get him signed up for lessons. What's really neat is his teacher is the same lady who taught Jon. Love it! Needless-to-say, it was a good incentive to get the piano tuned. LOL The day it was tuned, I was able to snap this picture Jon and the kids with the piano. It was awesome seeing him share his wonderful talent with them. I just hope he shares it more often. (hint, hint)

Blessings of Attending the Temple

The definition of Temple, found in the Bible Dictionary, states:

A temple is literally a house of the Lord, a holy sanctuary in which sacred ceremonies and ordinances of the gospel are performed by and for the living and also in behalf of the dead. A place where the Lord may come, it is the most holy of any place of worship on the earth. Only the home can compare with the temple in sacredness.

Whenever the Lord has had a people on the earth who will obey his word, they have been commanded to build temples in which the ordinances of the gospel and other spiritual manifestations that pertain to exaltation and eternal life may be administered.

From Adam to the time of Jesus, ordinances were performed in temples for the living only. After Jesus opened the way for the gospel to be preached in the world of spirits, ceremonial work for the dead, as well as for the living, has been done in temples on the earth by faithful members of the Church. Building and properly using a temple is one of the marks of the true Church in any dispensation, and is especially so in the present day.

Scriptures describe the temple as “a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning, a house of glory, a house of order, a house of God.” (D&C 88:119 & 109: 8)

As we strive to draw closer to the Lord and receive answers to our prayers, we can seek His guidance through temple worship. As we go to the temple, worthy members of the Church may receive and help others receive sacred ordinances, such as baptism for the dead, the endowment, eternal marriage, and sealings. These temple ordinances lead to great blessings which are available through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. As we provide this service to others, we are often blessed personally. President Gordon B. Hinckley has written: “The temple is … a place of personal inspiration and revelation. [Many] are those who in times of stress, when difficult decisions must be made and perplexing problems must be handled, have come to the temple in a spirit of fasting and prayer to seek divine direction. Many have testified that while voices of revelation were not heard, impressions concerning a course to follow were experienced at that time or later which became answers to their prayers” (Ensign, Mar. 1993, p. 6).

I have found that when I am troubled or have an important decision to make the peace that I have felt within the walls of the Temple will calm my thoughts and I am better able to understand things that I wasn’t able to understand before. I have gone to the temple with very specific questions wanting to be answered and knowing that if I prepare myself spiritually I will receive the spiritual guidance I am in need of.

Service in the temple brings blessings to us in this life as well as in eternity. Elder Neal A. Maxwell of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles said that

“temple work is not an escape from the world but a reinforcing of our need to better the world while preparing ourselves for another and far better world. Thus, being in the Lord’s house can help us to be different from the world in order to make more difference in the world.”

What a profound statement. We as a people desire our world to be a better place…not only for our children but our grandchildren. What better way to do that than by attending the temple? We learn to be better people, to live our lives in such a way that is pleasing to our Father in Heaven. We learn to live in the world and not of the world. As we prepare ourselves for another, far better world, we learn how we can make more of a difference in this world.

If we are true and faithful in this life, we may obtain eternal life. Immortality is to live forever. Eternal life means more than simply being immortal. Eternal life is to gain exaltation in the highest heaven and live in the family unit. God declared that His grand mission statement—“my work and my glory”—is “to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.” His gift of immortality is unconditional—a free gift of salvation to all humankind. The possibility of eternal life—even exaltation—is available to us through our obedience to covenants made and ordinances received in the holy temples of God.

The blessings of the temple become most meaningful when our loved ones are taken in death from our family circles. To know that our period of separation is but temporary provides peace that passes ordinary understanding. President Joseph Fielding Smith (1876–1972) wrote, “Through the power of this priesthood which Elijah bestowed, husband and wife may be sealed, or married for eternity; children may be sealed to their parents for eternity; thus the family is made eternal, and death does not separate the members.” Blessed with eternal sealings, we can face death as a necessary component of God’s great plan of happiness.

-->In August 2005, my Grandfather passed away. He was the closest thing to a father figure I had while growing up. He was always there for me and I knew that I could always count on him being there when times got tough. When he passes away it was a bittersweet blessing. I knew that he was free from pain and free from a body that he could no longer control. I knew that he was happy. Yet, it was painful to see him pass on from this life. Thankfully, I have the knowledge that I will see him again. Not in this life, but in the life to come. This knowledge is from attending the temple and knowing that being sealed as a family for eternity is real. What a blessing that is to me. To know that no matter what happens I have that eternal family. As long as I live my life according to the teachings of the gospel I will be with them forever.

Story Answers to prayer

As the sun rose one June morning, a couple started their day with a prayer of thanksgiving. This day they were witnessing the answer to 13 years of earnest prayer. Their 27-year-old son and his wife had worked with loving bishops to put their lives in order so they might be worthy to enter the temple. That morning they would be sealed for all eternity.

This grateful mother reflects: “The joy we felt was unspeakable. As we sat in the temple with our son and his sweet companion, my mind was taken back to the time when this boy was 14 and began making choices that drew him away from the guidance of the Spirit. The time came when we needed extra help from a loving Heavenly Father.

“Attending the temple had always been important to us, and we felt prompted to pray for our son in this holy place. Each time we attended the temple, we placed our son’s name on the prayer roll.

“We wanted our prayers to be answered today—or tomorrow at the latest. But years passed, and our son remained less active. We were not left without hope, however. We often felt the comforting influence of the Holy Ghost. One evening while my husband and I were praying in the temple, the Spirit let us know unmistakably that our son was being watched over and that he would eventually repent and return to Church activity. We were also taught that we must never give up and never stop loving him. Our faith was strengthened, and a great peace settled into our hearts.

“And then came that sacred day when our prayers were answered.”

This couple’s experience was the joyous fulfillment of a prophetic statement by President Gordon B. Hinckley: “I make you a promise that if you will go to the house of the Lord, you will be blessed, life will be better for you. … Avail yourselves of the great opportunity to go to the Lord’s house and thereby partake of all of the marvelous blessings that are yours to be received there” (“Excerpts from Recent Addresses of President Gordon B. Hinckley,” Ensign, July 1997, 73).

-->This story is very poignant for me. It reminds me of all the prayers I have said for my mother. For most of my life, my mom has been an inactive member of the church. After experiencing the blessings of attending the temple for myself, I wanted my mom to experience those same blessings. I prayed and prayed that her heart would be softened, that she would choose to change her habits, that she would have a desire to start attending church meetings, that she would repent and have the desire to go to the temple. As the years passed by, I would still pray, but I had resigned myself to the possibility that I would be the one taking her name through the temple and performing those ordinances for her after she had passed away. The Holy Ghost comforted me during these times of uncertainty for me. Thankfully, my prayers were answered. I had the opportunity to go with my mom to the temple for the first time this last November. What a blessing that was for me. I have witnessed a miraculous change in my mom. And I know it is due to her allowing the spirit back into her life. She chose to change her ways, to repent, and to turn to our Father in Heaven for strength and comfort.

One more story I would like to share is taken from an article I found in the Sep 1990 Ensign titled, “I Would Love a Blessing” by M. Russell Ballard.

Some time ago I was asked by the First Presidency to stop and visit a man on my way to a stake conference. This man had been excommunicated, had fully repented, and had been found worthy to be baptized. But baptism did not restore his priesthood and temple blessings. That was my assignment, acting on behalf of the Lord at the direction of the President of the Church.

I found the man lying in a hospital suffering from a disease that left him unable to move or speak. On seeing him, I realized that it would be impossible to conduct the customary interview. Instead, I felt impressed that I should interview his wife, who was there with him. We found a vacant room in the hospital, and I had a wonderful visit with this stalwart woman, the mother of eight. She had stood by her husband, remaining true and faithful through all his struggle and difficulty. Now she, like her husband, greatly desired that he have his blessings restored.

As we walked back into the husband’s room, I asked his wife to help me communicate with him. During the two years that his body had deteriorated from disease, he had developed a way to communicate with his eyes. I leaned over his bed and said, “I am Elder Ballard. I have been sent here by the President of the Church. I am authorized to restore your blessings. Would you like that?” I quickly saw I wouldn’t need the help of his wife. Tears filled his eyes and ran down his cheeks in affirmative response.

I placed my hands on his head and, using terminology associated with this ordinance, restored to him the Melchizedek Priesthood.

He sobbed—perhaps the first sounds he had made in some time. I restored his office in the priesthood. Then I restored to him, by the power of the priesthood, the holy endowment that he had received when he went through the temple for the first time. Last, I restored what was perhaps most valuable to him—his sealings to his wife and children.

As the blessing concluded we were all filled with emotion. I looked at his wife and had the impression that I was to bless her also. I said, “Sister, would you like us to give you a blessing?”

She said, “Oh, I would love a blessing, Brother Ballard. I have not had a blessing in a long time.”

I asked her to sit down; then the regional representative, the stake president, and I placed our hands on her head. But when I tried to bless her, the words would not come. We took our hands off her head and I said, “Brethren, let’s move her chair closer to the bed.” We pushed her chair over where I could lift her husband’s hand and place it on her head, since he was unable to lift it himself. As we proceeded again with the blessing, the words flowed. Blessings were given, conviction and comfort came.

I have since thought what a marvelous lesson that experience teaches us. This man had sinned, and a loving Heavenly Father had required that he repent so he could be worthy to be once again numbered among the Saints. He had subsequently done our Heavenly Father’s will; he had turned his life around; he had repented. Now, back in the Church and continuing to progress, he was worthy to have his greatest blessings restored. And he was able to use his restored priesthood immediately, participating in giving his wife a special priesthood blessing.

-->What a wonderful story. This just shows that no matter our circumstances we can change and we can be worthy to have the greatest blessings of all.

I know that as we attend the temple we will be blessed in all aspects of our lives. We will have a greater ability to love, to serve, to understand the scriptures, and to progress toward the promised blessing of living with our Heavenly Father again.

Jake's School Spring Concert

On Thursday, April 23rd, we attended a concert at the New Life Christian School. This is where Jake goes to preschool, and his class had learned three songs for this Spring Concert. It was so neat seeing him up on those bleachers singing and doing all the little hand motions. What a big boy he is growing up to be! (Not that he was ever little to begin with!)

Easter

We had a pretty nice Easter. Church was wonderful and afterwards the kids got to see what the Easter bunny brought for them. They were SO excited! Especially for all the candy that was in their baskets and hidden throughout the living room. It was fun watching them go through their baskets to see what all they got. Afterwards, we went over to Barb and Phil's for Easter dinner. It was SOO yummy! Ate way to much! And then hung out. The kids had a great time. Aleigha, however, decided she was tired and climbed right up onto Grammie's lap with her blankie and fell right to sleep. It was so precious, as she does not do this very often. Pocatello Trip

On March 27th, my friend Mandy and I made a road trip to see our families. She is from Melba, Idaho and since it was our kids spring break that next week we felt it was a great time to go. So, we loaded up all 5 kids (her 3 and my 2) and away we went. We were able to get out of town by 8am--which is GREAT for me! Our drive seemed to go SO fast! The kids were SOOO good. We brought TONS of munchies that way we wouldn't have to stop except for potty breaks. We managed to get to Nampa (Mandy's in-laws place) in a little over 6 hours. Mandy and I couldn't believe how quickly that drive seemed to go. After unloading them and a quick potty break, I was back on the road for another 3.5 hours to Poky.

When we arrived at my mom's, we quickly unloaded most of our stuff, packed a bag with our swimsuits and towels and headed to Lava Hot Springs to see Ri, Jim, Krysten & the gang. The kids had such a great time playing! It was fun being able to share that experience with them. Especially, now that Jake is getting older he will remember it the next time we go. We were able to go twice while visiting with my mom.

While staying at my mom's, Jake sleeps out in the living room with Krysten and Aleigha and I sleep in Krysten's room. It's interesting seeing how my kids adapt to changes in their routines. At home, we have a set bed time...at Grandma's...that goes RIGHT out the window! LOL Isn't that the way it's supposed to be though? Thankfully, Jake and Aleigha were troopers and didn't push the limits TOO much.

On sunday, we were able to go to Mom and Krysten's ward. It was such a wonderful experience to hear my Mom's Testimony and to sit in on her Primary class. She is such an amazing person! I am SOO proud of her and all that she has gone through to get to where she is at today.

After church, we went up to Ri and Jim's new place, up Mink Creek. The area they are living used to be an Egg Farm called Frazier's. The people who bought the land and buildings have been renovating and cleaning things up. It was beautiful there. The deer are right there and mountains, creeks, ect. Perfect place for Ri and Jim! Anyway, we ended up having a BBQ while it SNOWED!! Poor Jim was the lucky one to do the cooking! lol

Aleigha LOVED getting into Krysten's things in her room. As shown in the picture below, she found Krysten's makeup. Another time she was playing with her jewelry and everything that was located in this one shelf. She even managed to get into some paint and managed to get it all over her clothes and even some on the floor! Poor Grandma! Needless-to-say, Aleigha was a handful on that trip! Thank goodness she's soo darn cute!! :)
On Saturday April 4th, we went to Buddy's! This place has the BEST salad!! Even Aleigha enjoyed the famous salad! Jake, on the other hand, didn't want anything to do with that green stuff. He stuck with his pizza. Every time I go to Poky I try, try, try to go eat there at least once. Thankfully, we were able to go this time.
After we went to Buddy's, I took the kids and Krysten to Ross Park. Thankfully, they were able to play for a bit before it started snowing (or was it hail?). However, that didn't stop us from playing! By the time we were done, ALL of us were wet! It was so much fun though! I don't know if Krysten agrees fully, but Ri and I had fun! Right, Ri? ;) We still love you Krysten!!!

We had such a great trip! I'm so glad we were able to go visit everyone. Even though I felt like I could stay another week, the kids and Daddy were ready to come home. Thanks Mom for everything! Can't wait to see you guys again! Love you, bunches!!

March update

March was such a crazy month! For most of it we were getting ready for Jon's parents 50th Wedding Anniversary Reception. Jon's brother, Steve and family, and his sister Terri and her daughter Jessica flew up from Arizona for the shin-dig. It was such a wonderful time (hectic, too) to have them all here to help celebrate this wonderful occasion. Many more family members were able to be here, as well as loads of friends! It was so awesome to see how many people love and care for Barbara and Phil.

Holy cow! I can't believe it has been five years ago since Jacob came to our little family. He has sure grown up a lot! We have been so blessed to have him in our lives. He makes us laugh. He drives us crazy. He constantly amazes us with how much he knows. He is so very sweet. He loves his little sister (most of the time). He is still as big as ever! He started out at a whopping 10 lbs 12 oz,19 inches long and is still HUGE! People are always mistaking him for a 6 or 7 year old. I love my lil' man so very much! And I am SO blessed that he is my son. He has such a tender heart and sweet spirit. I hope and pray that he stays that way!

Flu

So, the flu bug has made another stop at our house. This is the second time this year!! Ugh!! I was up with Aleigha for most of the night last night. It is SO not fun when they are this little. It's not fun no matter how old they are...but this age they just don't understand what's going on and why. I'm just praying that nobody else gets it!! Thankfully, Jake was good and Aleigha and I were able to sleep this afternoon and now Jon is home and is helping. It is SO nice that he is so willing to help!
That's about it for now. I will post something later about what's been going on besides this fun stuff!

Not much has been going on here...just the same ol' crap. lol Kids are growing like weeds; Jake is trying to stretch his boundaries (why do kids always do that?); Aleigha is the typical two year old--into E V E R Y T H I N G!; Jon is really liking his job and is learning a lot of new things; and I am striving to get back in control of my life. I am striving to be more organized and be the wife/mother/daughter that my Heavenly Father knows I can be. I am so grateful for my family and their unfailing faith in me...if not for you guys, I would be in the looney bin! haha

Anywho, I have been wanting to share some random pictures that I have taken throughout this month...just of the kids and some birthday pics of Lori and Denise.

This is Jake's Cowboy he made one day out of playdough. He was VERY proud of himself! Very creative boy!

Jake & Aleigha were being silly one day and wanted me to take pictures. Aleigha put all of her "accessories" on all by herself! Such a silly girl!

I was able to go over to Moses Lake and have lunch with Lori and Deni at Inca's. I hadn't seen Den in FOREVER, so it was nice to see her and be able to celebrate Lor's Birthday. Lori even took me to see her house which is awesome! Can't wait for her to move in! Hopefully within a week!! YAH!! This is at Momma Yum Yum's with the girls to celebrate Denise's birthday. It was a good night. Good food and great conversation! And this is what Shana & I made for her. Shana found the quote and we both agreed that it was SOOO Denise! LOL We love ya, girl!

Ok, so, I'm a bit late in posting these...but I decided I had better get them posted! These are just a few pics I took while down at my Mom's for Thanksgiving.

Aleigha fell asleep just hangin' out with Jake and Krysten...I thought this was so cute I had to take a picture!

AhRian & I at the movies. We went and saw "Twilight" for the second time with our hubbies. It was a fun night. We even went out to dinner afterwards. It was nice to double date with those two. I swear we are such polar opposites!! It is rather hilarious. Ri & I even commented on how different we probably look to people. Ri & Jim are almost dressed biker style, and then there's Jon & I...dressy casual...you know, our usual. hahaha it was fun!!

This is a picture of the day my Mom went through the Temple for the first time. She went through the Idaho Falls Temple. I was able to be her escort and Lori, Pat, Jon, & Grandma Colleen (mom's Mom) were all there to celebrate this wonderful moment. We are so proud of her and the steps that she has taken to get here! We know it was NOT easy, but SO worth it! We love you!!!

For those interested, here's the latest update. Good news -- but still now sure about the books. Hopefully, this will be the last I have to post about it.

CPSC Clarifies Requirements of New Children’s Product Safety Laws Taking Effect in February
Guidance Intended for Resellers of Children’s Products, Thrift and Consignment Stores
WASHINGTON, D.C. - In February 2009, new requirements of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) take effect. Manufacturers, importers and retailers are expected to comply with the new Congressionally-mandated laws. Beginning February 10, 2009, children’s products cannot be sold if they contain more than 600 parts per million (ppm) total lead. Certain children’s products manufactured on or after February 10, 2009 cannot be sold if they contain more than 0.1% of certain specific phthalates or if they fail to meet new mandatory standards for toys.

Under the new law, children’s products with more than 600 ppm total lead cannot lawfully be sold in the United States on or after February 10, 2009, even if they were manufactured before that date. The total lead limit drops to 300 ppm on August 14, 2009.

The new law requires that domestic manufacturers and importers certify that children’s products made after February 10 meet all the new safety standards and the lead ban. Sellers of used children’s products, such as thrift stores and consignment stores, are not required to certify that those products meet the new lead limits, phthalates standard or new toy standards.

The new safety law does not require resellers to test children’s products in inventory for compliance with the lead limit before they are sold. However, resellers cannot sell children’s products that exceed the lead limit and therefore should avoid products that are likely to have lead content, unless they have testing or other information to indicate the products being sold have less than the new limit. Those resellers that do sell products in violation of the new limits could face civil and/or criminal penalties.

My sister-in-law, Teresa, has been posting about this on her blog and I felt this was so important that I needed to share this with all of you:

"Is the Government serious? I'm all for keeping our kids safe, but really, is this necessary? Come Feb. 10th, all used childrens products will need to be lead and phthalates tested -- which is expensive and will put many children consignment stores out of business! Yes, this is clothing and toys, etc for children under 12. Oh, and this includes yard sales, e-bay, Craigs list, etc. You have to read this article to believe it from the LA Times. I clothes shop for 5 kids and love the consignment stores. Well, there goes my clothing budget. Sorry, just had to vent!!! (Note to our RS Enrichment Counselor, Patrice: A children's clothing swap may be a good idea to add to the list of activites for this year.)"

The Sale of Children's Books to be Banned

Oh, how I wish this were a joke! But it is a grim and looming, almost Orwellian, reality.

Effective February 10th, in the United States, the sale of all children's books (books intended for children ages 12 and under) is to be PROHIBITED. Every single book printed prior to the ruling is affected, whether new or used. New books in production are required to include a "lead-free" certification and will be the only books that are legal to offer for sale.

What does this mean to your family?

Well, for one, curriculum fairs across the country will be cancelled as book vendors scramble to figure out how to comply with the new ruling. Complete book inventories will have to be destroyed -- the ruling even prohibits giving away the books! Local thrift stores will be hard hit -- most will likely have to close their doors -- yes, even Goodwill and Salvation Army.

Clothing, toys and books -- even CDs and DVDs are included in the ruling. Thrift stores will no longer be able to accept or process anything (including clothing) that would be intended for a child.

No more library sales. Libraries will not be permitted to give away or sell book donations. It is unsure yet, however, how the libraries' shelves themselves will be impacted (the ruling doesn't explicitly mention "loaning" books, just selling or giving them away). The key word, however, is "distribution" -- libraries may well be required to destroy books from their shelves.

(The ruling that originally passed was about toys, but the EPA has since made a statement that clothing, books and media are included in "children's toys".)

Just how serious is this new law?

Amazon.com has already notified all vendors of their need to comply. No book can be sold at the Amazon site that was printed prior to compliance. And the "compliance" must be coordinated at the manufacturing stage. At the time of this article there is no clause to be able to grandfather-in older books or even rare out-of-print books. It can cost between $500 and $1500 to test a book for lead.

I happen to own a children's bookstore specializing in living books from the 1950s and '60s. My punishment for selling a book after February 10th? Up to $100,000 and 5 years in jail. And yes, it is a felony charge. For selling a SINGLE book.

(Although I don't think the S.W.A.T. team scenario would become a reality overnight, at the same time I would be leery of blatantly violating Federal law.)

So what can you do to help save your local used bookstore that sells children's books? Or that homeschool curriculum business? Or your EBay business selling children's items?

A Very Merry Christmas!!

We had a very nice Christmas this year. The kids were a blast to watch--especially Aleigha! She was such a hoot! We spent the first part of our morning opening up our Stockings and Santa gifts and then headed over to Grammie and Papa's for some very yummy brunch! Afterwards, we enjoyed opening the remainder of our family and friend gifts. Aleigha was in such a hurry to open presents. She'd get one opened and then would want another one right now! Everything seemed to be happening VERY fast. Finally, we said let's calm things down and enjoy our opening of gifts. Aleigha hated that idea, but we dealt with it! Jake had so much fun...he kept buzzing around like a bee...couldn't hold that kid still for nothin'! Thankfully, we were able to come home and have much needed naps and then back to Grammie and Papa's for some dinner and visiting.

We had a pretty great day. Even with the raunchy kids and runny noses!

We hope each of you had a wonderful day filled with the joy of this wonderful holiday! We love you and wish we could spend this day with you all!

Snow Fun & Christmas Concert (December 19th)

I know I promised updates, but I felt that I needed to post these items first...that way I just get it done! hehe

Yesterday, it was a bit warmer outside (17 degrees versus 9) and so I took the kids outside in the backyard and let them run around and play in the snow. They had a BLAST and spent a good hour throwing snow at each other me. Aleigha kept wiping snow off of things--like our turtle sand box, she had to wipe off all the snow from off the top of it. The dryer vent, that too. Her boots and mine. It was rather amusing watching her. Jake was just happy to be able to make his snow angels and throw snow at me (even though I didn't want him too). It was great being outside and "playing" with them for a bit. Snow is so much fun...it's too bad it has to be SOOOO freakin' cold!!!

Today, was Jake's preschool's Christmas Concert. Ok, actually, it was the whole schools, but, I only really cared about Jake's part. He was SOOO cute. When he came out he started looking for me...couldn't find me and then when he did he was like, "Mom! Hi mom! Look at me! I'm going to sing!" he was soo excited to show off for me. hehehe He was too cute!! Anyways, I have some videos to share.

So, I went to the midnight show last night of Twilight! It was SOOO awesome!!!! I was a bit nervous about how it would compare with the book, but I was not disappointed. I was ready to sit through it again--at 2 in the morning, no less!! If you haven't seen it yet, go!! It is definitely worth seeing on the big screen.

Randomness (is that even a word?)

Ok, so...yeah. I've been meaning to update for a while but haven't taken the time until now. Needed to upload some pics and been lazy, yeah, what can I say? hehe Anyways.

Life has been rather crazy lately. Last Thursday I had oral surgery on my tooth that has been giving me he!! for about 2+ years now. I've had a root canal, they've ground it down, and when I saw the dentist this last time he decided that he needed to actually go into the root and clean out all the infection that way. So, they cut open my gum and cleaned it all out (had a pretty good nap during the process...love that nitrous!) and then they sent me home with 4 stitches along my gums. Thankfully, Barb took Jake for the remainder of the day and I was able to take Aleigha home and take a nap until I had to be to work at 5pm. I was a little loopy from all the meds but had a pretty good night. I even was able to get Mandy to cut my hair! Love it!!! (See picture below.)
On Sunday, Jake lost his first tooth. His two bottom front teeth have been VERY loose for a couple weeks now, and I knew they would be coming out soon. His adult teeth have been visible for a while now. Anyways, the tooth fairy made a visit that night and brought him a dollar for his very first tooth. He was VERY excited! Then, the next day, while playing at his buddy Garrett's he lost his 2nd tooth. In fact, we think he swallowed it! LOL The boys were rough-housing and Garrett accidentally elbowed Jake in the mouth and that's how he lost it. So, the tooth fairy came back that night. Here are a couple pictures of the toothless boy!
Here are a couple of pictures of Miss Aleigha who is into EVERYTHING!! Quite literally! I was doing the laundry and she noticed the dryer was open and she preceded to climb right on in. It was rather hilarious. And, yes, she was munching on some crackers too. Ugh. Oh, and since I took pictures of her she now thinks it is ok that she do this EVERY time I open the dryer. Needless-to-say, she's been a little upset with me. Oh, well. Life goes on! lol
This last Monday, Jon had some training meetings in Tri-Cities for work and he suggested I tag along and get some Christmas shopping done. So, I decided I couldn't let an opportunity like this pass through my fingers. I found babysitters for the kids (thanks Shana and Lori!!) and went shopping for the day. It was so fun. And SO nice to get a break. I got quite a bit of shopping done and feel pretty good about the results.

Well, I think that's about it. Oh! Last Tuesday, Veteran's day, since Jon had the day off we went to Wenatchee and got some family pictures done. They turned out SOO good! I will be posting some pictures soon....have to find the disc! lol

So, my partner in crime posted this earlier today on her blog, and since she has worded everything sooo well--I'm copying!! hehehe I know, I'm bad!

Here goes (and yes, I did change some things around to fit my blog better):

I've been a little busy lately...and here's why. My friend Shana and I have teamed up to share our love of scrapbooking/papercrafting with others and created a business called Kre-A-Shans. We've been working on several projects and are excited to tell you about a Holiday Open House at the Best Western here in town tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be several other businesses there including At Home America, Mary Kay, Cookie Lee, Scentsy, Pampered Chef, Avon, Tupperware, and Stampin' Up! So much holiday shopping in one stop! We hope you'll be able to join us....there will be door prize drawings every half hour, plus enter for chance at a grand prize basket worth about $300 filled with goodies from each business!

Thankful Thursday & a Smashed Finger

1. I am thankful that Aleigha's finger is in one piece...and that the doctor thinks everything will be okay with it.

2. I am thankful that Aleigha was such a big girl during the poking and prodding during the ER visit.

3. I am thankful that family were close by when I needed them!

4. I am thankful that Barbara took Jake for the afternoon so that Aleigha and I could take some much needed naps after the adrenaline wore off!

5. I am thankful I stayed home from work and don't have to go back until Tuesday.

6. I am thankful that Jake will no longer be slamming his bedroom door shut.

7. I am thankful for the power of prayer (thank you, Mom) and the power of the priesthood and having a husband worthy to use it (thank you, Jon & Dad).

Ok, if you are still wondering what I am talking about, I will tell you. While getting ready for the day today (thankfully, after I had showered and dressed and even makeup), Aleigha wanted to play with Jake in his room. Well, being the older brother and wanting to be alone in his room, he slammed his bedroom door before she was able to enter his room (this has happened many times...usually ending with her crying in frustration and me opening the door letting her in his room)...well, I was in my bathroom getting ready when I heard the door slam and then a cry from Aleigha that was NOT a frustrated cry! It was most definately one of pain. I ran as fast as I could to her side, opened the door which had been closed on her left middle finger, scolded Jake for slamming the door on her finger, meanwhile holding and trying to confort Aleigha. I was holding her and trying to calm her down when it finally dawned on me that I was wet...I looked down and saw blood. Yup, you guessed it...her finger had been sliced open. I didn't know exactly how bad it was, but knew that I needed to put something on it to help stop the bleeding. Within seconds, I had grabbed a clean washcloth, the phone (which I called Barbara saying I needed her here N O W and then Jon telling him to meet me at the ER here in Ephrata). As soon as Barb got here (and after I donned a shirt) we made our way to the ER.

The ER nurses and the physician that saw us were absolutely wonderful. I was SO thankful for how well they treated Aleigha and how great their bedside manners were. Thankfully, the doctor was able to stitch the tip of her finger back on, after numbing it of course. And sent us home with instructions to come back on Saturday for a dressing change and then to go see her doctor on Monday for a check-up and dressing change. She is currently scheduled to see an Orthopedic Surgeon on Wednesday in Spokane, but I would like to wait and see what her Doctor has to say. If she thinks she will be fine and there is no need to go to Spokane, then we won't. But, if she thinks she still needs to see the Surgeon, then we will.

Anyways, it was a VERY long day...nothing that I had planned really came about. However, I finally made it to the store tonight and am thankful I was able to reschedule my dental appointments.

I have attached some pictures of her bandaged arm. And, yes, that is a tube sock safety pinned to her shirt over her arm. LOL She has been quite the trooper! Love that lil' munchkin!

First off, I apologize for such a huge post...but, alas, it can't be helped! LOL I need to get this blog updated! So, here goes (Most recent events are first):

On Monday, the 27th, during Aleigha's naptime, I went outside and watched Jake blow some bubbles. He had SO much fun...especially showing off for Mom! He hHe is SUCH a cutie!

Last Thursday, a friend of mine put together an awesome preschool Halloween Party. She did an AMAZING job! She had different stations put up in her backyard for the kids to participate in. Yummy potluck, and great visiting! Here are a few pictures of that day. Also, I HAD to toot my horn and share Aleigha's hair. She dressed up as a princess and instead of having her wear a princess hat, I made up her hair into one, instead! Thought it turned out too cute!

Since, Aleigha's actual birthday was on a Sunday, I decided, as a gift to me, she would wear one a dress that I wore when I was 2 or 3. I absolutely love this dress. And really was hoping it would fit her. Thankfully, it did!! So, off to church we went...I wanted to take some pictures of her on outside next to some of the bushes and shrubs that are around the Church, but I wasn't able to do so. So, unfortunately, the only pictures I have of that day, are after church, when she is tired and uncooperative. But, at least I have some, right?

I took these snaps of Jacob playing horsey for Aleigha on October 9th. Oh, Man! It was SO stinkin' Hilarious!! It totally reminded me of playing horsey with AhRian, back in the day. Brought back some memories...Too Much Fun!!

On October 9th, we had Elder Heinbaugh and Elder Stafford over for Jon's ultimate Boston Burritos. Since Jon rarely makes dinner, I felt it warranted documentation. hehe We had a great time with the missionaries and they really enjoyed the burritos. Elder Heinbaugh kept trying to figure out what they were made of. He even took a little piece on his fork and tried to decipher what was inside. Rather funny.

Yesterday, we celebrated Aleigha's 2nd birthday. It was short and sweet, but memorable, none-the-less. I made cake and Poppa made icecream (yum!). And then we opened up presents. She had SO much fun eating cake and ripping up paper. It was a lot of fun to watch her.

We are so blessed to have her in our family. She is quite the little girl. Full of spunk. Sweet. LOUD. She is such a girly girl...but also enjoys getting down and dirty with the boys. Especially, her role model, Jake (sometimes, this is not a good thing.).

Progress at Preschool

As I'm sure I have mentioned in previous posts, Jake has recently started attending preschool. Well, it has been such a battle to even GET him there, let alone, LEAVE him there. He will cry and yell and kick up a fuss if I mention going to preschool and then when I go to leave he does the same. Well, he has progressively gotten better...less whining, and crying; more willing to try this new venture. Well, today was amazing!

He asked, "Mom, are you leaving?"
My reply, "Yes, I'll be leaving soon, ok?"
"Ok."
A few minutes go by (he is at his seat working on his morning worksheet), and I say, "Ok, Jakey, I'm leaving now. I will see you in a little bit, ok?"
He was a little worried at first, but then seemed to relax a bit. His teacher made her way over to him and said "you'll be ok, and Mom will be back in a bit."
He said, "Ok, Mom. I'll see you later!"
I blew him and kiss as I walked up the stairs...he blew one back and said "BYE!"
By this time his class was clapping and cheering him on because this is the FIRST time he has done this and not kicked up a HUGE fuss with me leaving!

I am SO proud of him! He is such a big boy. And I am SO grateful that he is able to learn that he can handle things even when I am not around.

Ok, so...This is something that I have been wanting to incorporate into my blogging, but just haven't gotten around to doing it...until today. :)

I have been trying to be patient today, but my kids are driving me CRAZY!! It must be the weather or something...they are such sweeties...even if they drive me crazy! lol

1) So, the first thing I am thankful for today is NAPTIME!! Ah! How I LOVE this time of day! Aleigha goes right down and Jake plays some preschool games on the computer during this time. Thus, this gives me 2 to 3 hours of "me" time (which is something that I have been in need of since my kids woke me up this morning).

2) I am very thankful for getting all of my laundry done last night...as when I woke up this morning we had no water due to the construction on the water pipes in our neighborhood. It was SO nice of them to let us know that we wouldn't have any water for a couple hours. Thankfully, I didn't need to do laundry...however, a SHOWER would have been nice to help me get going this morning. Grrr.... Thank goodness I took one last night! :)

3) I am thankful I do not have to work tonight! Nuf said.

4) I am thankful for being able to spend some time with Jon tonight. Maybe watch a show or two that we have DVR'd. He is such a great guy! I am SO thankful that he puts up with all my crap. I love you!

5) Last, but certainly not least, I am thankful tomorrow is FRIDAY!!! Seattle here I come! I am going on a Scrap Retreat with a group of gals and won't be back home until Sunday afternoon/evening. I am SO ready to get out of dodge for a bit. Seems like this was the perfect time to go to. It will be nice to just do my own thing this weekend. Thanks to Jon for agreeing that I should go. *huggs*

I recieved this news article in my inbox today and felt I needed to share this. I know that what Pres. Monson said in this talk is exactly what we need to be doing in our own homes. I know that with the Lord's help, we will succeed in what needs to be done.

President Thomas S. Monson asked Latter-day Saints to love their neighbors and to put their homes in order during a regional meeting Sunday in the Conference Center.

The president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints spoke to thousands at the gathering and thousands more tuned in via satellite feed to 77 other locations, with translation into more than a dozen languages. The multi-stake conference included LDS congregations in the Salt Lake City North Area.

"Let there be no anger among us," he said, quoting 3rd Nephi in the Book of Mormon. "Let their be no disputations among you. ... he that hath the spirit of contention is not of me."

He encouraged Latter-day Saints to set their homes in order, according to a scriptural admonition in the Doctrine and Covenants, to include prayer and instruction for young children in how to pray. He recalled a time he and his wife were kneeling with their 3-year-old son, who was learning to pray and was asking God to bless a member of their congregation who was ill.

"Bless Sister Lister, Henny Penny, Chicken Licken and Turkey Lurkey," the boy prayed, as his parents smiled quietly. "Never dismiss the prayer of a child," he urged, noting the family was "later humbled as Sister Lister sustained a full recovery."

Fasting is another mark of a faithful household, he said. As a boy, he learned to appreciate God's blessings through fasting when his mother would send him down the street with a plate of food for a neighbor who was alone before the family sat down to eat. President Monson said he once suggested to his mother that since he and the other family members were all hungry from fasting that day, maybe he could deliver the food after they finished their own meal.

She declined, saying his own meal would taste better after he delivered the food to a friend in need. "She was right, it did," he said.

Making one's home a house of faith includes petitioning God for needed blessings and asking for his help. One couple in Colorado did so when their young missionary son in Germany decided he wanted to come home shortly after arriving there. As a visiting general authority to their stake conference, President Monson prayed with the couple that their son would find the courage to stay and complete his assignment.

When the father asked why their faith was being tested after they had worked so hard to help their son serve, President Monson asked where he was serving and told the couple their prayers were not in vain, as he had been assigned to meet with the missionaries in Germany within the month. He interviewed their son, who stayed and served an honorable mission.

He urged members to build a house of learning by studying the scriptures regularly and to read good books with their families, especially young children, in order to develop a lifelong love of learning.

Making one's home a house of glory includes the need "to be sincere with God. You can not be one person and pretend to be another," he said. "We can't live a lie ... .It is by being consistent that we can assure a house of glory."

A house of order includes time for family, for work, for study, for recreation and for self, and "above all, time for Christ.

Developing a huse of God is one where "clean thoughts, noble purposes, ready hearts and ready hands" are dedicated to helping and serving others. One missionary exemplified the teachings of such a home when he was hospitalized and facing major surgery, President Monson said.

The missionary shared the basic principles of the gospel with five other men in his room before he was taken into the operating room, and the men decided among them to fast for his recovery, though none of them knew much about the LDS Church except what the missionary had shared with them.

The operation was a success, and as President Monson — who was then serving as mission president — attempted to pay the surgeon, he refused to take the money. "He said he had never before performed a surgery where he knew that his hands had been guided by a power higher than his own."

"This, then, is your building project, brothers and sisters, to organize yourselves, prepare every needful thing, and to establish a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning, a house of glory, a house of order, a house of God."

LOL Pop gave me a "cake" mix and asked me to make it...so, I did. Didn't notice they were brownies until they came out of the oven! LOL Oh, well...they were yummy anyway!

WOW! Jon sure did it! He actually surprised me for our anniversary today! It was awesome! He took me to a movie at the local theater...and we had it ALL TO OURSELVES! HEHE It was SOO sweet! He asked my boss (he also owns the theater) if it would be possible to do this. Loyd was totally down with it. So, Jon has been planning and schemeing for the last week and a half. LOL He has been dieing to tell me, but wanted to see my look of surprise. I'm so glad he didn't tell me. I was very surprised and happy! He did a great job! Kudos to Jon! :p

We watched National Treasure 2 (neither one of us had seen it) and had pizza, pop, chocolate, sparkling cider, oh...and kisses! HEHEHE

Tonight we took the kids and went to McDonald's and let the kids run around and play. It was so nice out and the kids had a great time! Jon and I reminisced about our wedding day, 9 years ago. It was a good night.

Wow! This month is just about over! Well, as most of you know, my Lil' Sis, AhRian came up for a week from Poky during this month. Then we drove do my Mom's for a week. I was even with my mom for my birthday...haven't had a birthday with her since I turned 17! We had a great time. It was a much needed get away. But I am sure glad to be back. Yeah! We are SOOOO glad that the sun has FINALLY made an appearance! It seems that the weather has made up it's mind to finally be warm--WOOHOO! We took FULL advantage of the beautiful weather today. Jon got the pool set up for the kids and the sprinkler going, and we also set up our portable gazebo for our back patio--LOVE IT! It is so nice to sit in the backyard in the shade and still be able to take advantage of the weather.

The kids had a BLAST playing in the water today! LOL Aleigha had SOO much fun splashing and stomping in the water! It was wonderful to see her enjoy this. Jake had fun showing off for Dad (I had to run an errand)--especially, in front of the camera! He is so funny! Doesn't like to hold still for a minute! Our own little hummingbird! XP

Speaking of running errands...I went yardselling with my good friend, Shana, this morning. We hit a couple of places but we were not that impressed. We even went by a couple of more "well-to-do" sales and, I swear, they were not getting rid of anything but junk! I hate to say it, but, well, it seemed rather true. Finally, we got to one sale and BAM! I found something I had to have! Found a wooden bench, for outside, that glides for only 10 bucks! It could use a fresh coat of varnish and sealant, but it is in good condition. I also, found one of those portable sun shades--brand spankin' new! It's the kind that is collapsable and folds up for easy storage. I plan on taking it with me when we go to the pool this summer and maybe even the park.

We went a few other places, but at our last yard sale I found a table for our dinning room! I have been looking and looking for one. Each time I would find one I liked I felt that it was WAY over-priced and the people were usually very firm. I was very happy with the price and it is in EXCELLENT condition. So, we loaded it up and brought it home! YEAH! Can't wait to actually see it in my dinning room...have to get the other one out first.

So, all-in-all, it has been a good day! Pretty eventful, if I say so myself! Here are some pictures of the kids! Pictures of my finds will come later.

Yeah, I know...I'm S-L-O-W! But here are some pictures from Easter. We didn't really do anything too exciting. Took the kids to the local park for an Easter egg hunt; went to church on sunday; had Easter dinner at Jon's parents'. It was nice having a quiet day. The kids enjoyed getting their Easter baskets...the candy was the ULTIMATE thing they really LOVED! lol But isn't that the way every kid is? I know I was just like that! Now look at me!! XD

Updates, updates, updates

Yeah, yeah. I know, I know. It's been FOREVER since I've last updated. What can I say, I'm lazy! LOL I actually do have some things to update everyone on. These past few weeks have been kind of a whirl wind. At the beginning of March, I started working at the local pizza place here in town--Time Out--LOVE IT! My boss is AWESOME! Couldn't ask for a better one! I work in the evenings, after Jon gets home from work, and am home usually by 10pm (at the latest). About 2 weeks into my new job, we found out we were pregnant! Talk about a TOTAL shocker!! We were very surprised and dazed. But we soon got used to the idea that we were having another baby. Well, on Friday, April 11th, was my 1st Doctor's appt. Needless-to-say, things didn't work out the way we thought. During my ultrasound (Dr. Lyon's always does an ultrasound during the first visit), we couldn't find a heartbeat. So, he scheduled me for another ultrasound with the radiologist (they have more detailed equipment, I guess) for that afternoon. I was SO upset after this first visit with Dr. Lyon's. He was very kind and professional about this whole thing, and said that we would wait till after this next ultrasound to figure out what we would be doing. I was almost hopeless. I had been feeling aprehensive about my appointment anyway, and then to have this happen! Man! Talk about sucky! At the beginning of my pregnancy, I felt things were different...somehow. I wasn't sure why, but that was how I felt. So, anyways. Went back that afternoon for another ultrasound and the results were the same. The baby had only developed till 7 weeks (I was at 9) and no heartbeat. After my ultrasound Jon and I met with Dr. Lyon's to talk about the next step. We decided to go ahead and schedule a D & C for Monday morning. I just felt that I needed to move on, rather than wait for things to happen on their own. Now that it's been a few days since the surgery, I'm doing ok. Sore, hormones are crazy, but doing ok. Today (thursday) has been kind of rough. Been a bit sad about this whole thing. Initially, we were SOO not prepared to be pregnant, then we had 4 weeks to get used to the idea only to have the game plan switched up again. Talk about a whirlwind month! I am very greatful for everyones love and support during this time. You all have been wonderful! Thank you to everyone who has helped during this time. We greatly appreciate it and love you all!

Well, I think that's about it for now. Will update again soon. Have some more to update on, but starting to get tired! (about time!! haven't been able to sleep!! Grrr!!)

Wow! I can't believe another birthday has already come and gone! It seems just a little while ago that he was born. Amazing how time flies! I decided I should post some pictures of him from when he was first born. Here he is:

Anyways, he had a good birthday, yesterday. We celebrated at Burger King. It's so nice to have it somewhere other than my house--someone else gets to clean up the mess! ;P We had Dirt Cake with worms. Upon seeing the worms going on the cake, Jake said "Eww...I don't yike (like) worms." LOL I told him these are the kind we can eat and are good. Upon trying them he agreed! He liked his dirt cake and thought it was cool that we were able to eat it. His friends kept calling it 'mud' cake. He made out really well with his gifts. From Jon, Aleigha and I he got a new Geo-Trak Train and tracks. From Grandma Judy a new tower for his Geo-Trak train set. Grammie and Papa gave him some disney books with picture projector and music player (Loves it!). Garrett gave him a transformer (still figuring it out but likes that it changes from a guy to a car). Blake and Alex gave him some Cars stuff that included stickers, magnets and a Doc car (loves it!). He also got some new activity books and 2 new puzzles. Thank you everyone who came to his party and thanks for all the goodies! He truly loves them!

Well, I've been meaning to update for a while now, but I haven't done it til now. Things have been pretty much the same, other than the fact I have a HORENDOUS head cold! YUCK! Kids are growing like weeds. They are so funny! Aleigha will, on occasion, come up to you and pretend to tickle you! She goes, "Tittle-tittle" and moves her fingers like she is tickling you. Hahaha! It's SO cute when she does this. And it is when you least expect it. Also, she is our yeller! It's amazing that such a loud voice comes out of such a tiny body! And, man, is she loud! She has definately made her presence known! If brother is doing something she doesn't like she lets him know, or if she is happy about something she will let us know! She is just L-O-U-D! Jon says that she is loud like Amanda was. She must have given Aleigha pointers on what would completely BUG 'Uncle Jon' before Aleigha was born. If she did, it's working!! :P Oh, anther thing about Aleigha, she is our Na-Kid! She LOVES being naked!!!!! It's very rare to find her clothed when I go in to get her when she wakes up in the morning. And, she likes to get undressed whenever possible! She will be clothed one second and then the next I will here from Jake yelling "Mom, Aleigha's diaper is off" or "Aleigha is taking her shirt off", Something like that. LOL She is quite the girl! Definately keeps us on our toes!

Jake is thoroughly excited for his birthday! Each morning he wakes up and asks if we can go to his birthday party. LOL I just have to tell him, "It's not your birthday yet. Another X days." He is so fun! Drives me crazy, but I love him!

About 2 weeks ago, I went outside with the kids and took some pictures of them playing in the snow. Jake had SOO much fun! Aleigha, on the other hand, didn't quite know what to make of all this cold stuff. She didn't like to be right out in the deep stuff, but stuck with the sidewalk. She would walk from the back steps to the fence and back. It was fun seeing them play. But, man, I am SOO ready for Spring!

This weekend we are working on getting things cleaned up and organized. We are planning on having a HUGE yard sale in the spring and are really trying to get things cleaned up. Also, we are trying to get things ready for if/when Krysten comes to live with us starting this summer. We have 4 months till she should be here. So, we have a LOT to do before then. Especially, since her room we are planning on putting her in is completely STUFFED to the gills of storage crap! We are still in the unknown stage of whether or not we will actually be able to adopt her, but we are getting ready none-the-less. We are just praying that everything will work out for her. She is such a sweet girl and deserves a mom and dad who will love her and give her the things she needs and deserves.

It is so hard telling someone you love that you are not comfortable with their lifestyle choices. I have been battling with this for sometime now, and finally felt that I was ready to make my feelings clear. I guess I shouldn't say "ready". I never feel ready for this kind of thing, no matter how long I think and pray about what I should or should not say. I always have this underlying feeling that I will be rejected no matter what I say. I also knew that I HAD to say something because if I didn't I would be lying to myself as well as my Heavenly Father. During this process of trying to sort out my feelings, I reflected on my own inner demons and past experiences. This sort of lifestyle used to not bother me...in fact, I was interested in it. However, now I know that this is not the path that leads to righteousness. It is a path that leads to pain and destruction. This is exactly where Lucifer wants us to be. We may not even see it as being wrong. He slowly skews our perceptions and makes us think that what we are doing is ok. He slowly changes our moral compass so that instead of leading us down that straight and narrow path, we are wandering in utter darkness. It is amazing how subtle he is. If you stray just a little, he will continue to steer you clear of your first intended path. I look back on what my life used to be like and I wonder where I would be if I would not have listened to the subtle prompting of the Holy Ghost. I have changed so much. I am much happier and I know that I am striving to hang on to that iron rod that leads back to Him. I am greatful for the knowledge I have of the Savior and his sacrifice for me. Without Him where would we be? He made it possible for us to repent of our sins to return to live with Him and our Father in Heaven. What a wonderful gift! I am greatful for being able to recognize the subtle promptings of the Holy Ghost. I know that he has helped me along this path. I am greatful for the many positive examples that uplift me continually. Without them my bucket would be VERY empty! I am grateful that I had this opportunity to share my true feelings and testimony, with this loved one, about their current lifestyle. I still love them and am SO grateful that they are a part of my life! They have many positive attributes...it just saddens me to see what they are choosing to do with them. I hope and pray that they will try to understand where I am coming from and I pray that I will continue to be the example Heavenly Father wants me to be.

Bug

Poor Buggie! Just yesterday I had to take him in to see the Vet for an emergency. He was acting so unlike himself...yowling out in pain whenever he was picked up and moved around. Was not really going anywhere except under my bed, and very anti-social--even for Bug. I called Jon and mentioned to him what was going on (this was before I knew about him yowling out in pain when moved). He suggested I call the vet and see if he should be seen. Well, I told Jon I would really like to wait one more day to see if he would improve and thus the phone call ended. So, I then went on with me afternoon. As I was unloading the dishes I kept getting this prompting that I needed to get Bug out from under my bed. I knew it was going to be a task (my bed is HUGE! And quite literally impossible to move by myself), never-the-less, I went about to it. I prayed for guideance and prayed that Bug would cooperate (i.e. not bite/scratch/mawl/ect me). After about 15 minutes of laying flat on my stomach and reaching and prodding and pulling (quite literally pulling on Bug's tail) I succeeded! Bug was out! We proceeded into my bathroom--didn't want him to go back under the bed--and I petted him and tried to see what was wrong. That was when I realized that he was in pain and discomfort. I left him shut up in the bathroom and called the vet. Thankfully he was able to be seen ASAP! The vet said that he had a blocked urinary track and that he needed to be put on IV fluids as he was majorly dehydrated. They got the IV in and then knocked him out. While he was out, the vet proceeded to hand me a towel with the words "Here. You're going to need this." and then he went about to unblocking my poor Bug. He had to use a catheter which mad it possible to dislodge the granules blocking urine flow. Let me tell ya, I was VERY glad I had that towel! I had to catch the flow that was let loose. Thankfully it was only pink and NOT red. If it was red that was a good indicator of kidney failure. So, I was relieved that we at least knew his kidneys were ok. Anyways, the vet kept him over night for observation and to make sure there wasn't another blockage in the morning. Everything went well--no blockages and he was up eating and drinking. He was able to come home! WOOHOO! Poor Buggie! He is currently residing in our bathroom until he can get control over his leak problem. He is in good spirits but is DEFINATELY ready to get out of that bathroom!! I am glad that we caught this problem when we did! We love you Buggie!!

However, I'm not sure of the details. Anyways, I was wanting to hear what you, my family and friends, think. Please let me know. Christmas...

Was quiet but very nice. We spent Christmas Eve at Jon's parents and had a lovely dinner and desert (Cherry Cheese pie!) and the Christmas Story. Ken, Lyn, and Sean Kenny came over for desert and the story. It was a nice evening. Went home and kids put on brand new pj's and put out some milk and cookies out for Santa. Christmas day was wonderful! Jake asked Santa for a new train and woke up to one all put together! He was SOO happy! And Aleigha got a new baby from him. It was fun watching Jake open presents this year--he was really into rippin' those packages apart! Once one was open, he was looking for the next one! It was great! Aleigha was content with just playing with the papers and bows! One present, can't remember who's it was from, came wrapped in bubble wrap--I think the kids had more fun poppin' those than all the other present they got!! It was fun watching Aleigha try and pop them by stomping on them! LOL Jon got his Optimus Prime Transformer that he's been wanting for a few years (thanks Mom). He was SOOO surprised!! And I got a Xyron sticker/laminater machine. What I wanted but better! So, overall it was a wonderful Holiday.

So, instead of really celebrating Jon being completely done with school, we are dealing with the flu!! UGH!! Jake has been sick for 2 1/2 days now! YUCK! Thank goodness he's finally starting to act a little more like his old chipper self. And, it looks like he's finally able to keep some toast and water down...100% better than yesterday (couldn't keep ANYTHING down!).

So, as I was saying, Jon is COMPLETELY done with his Masters as of Monday night. WOOHOO!! And, he's applied for his Diploma yesterday. He should be getting that in a month or so. I am so proud of him and this awesome accomplishment! Now on to bigger and better things! I hope! ;)

Nothing very exciting has been going on. Just getting ready for Christmas. We had a great Thanksgiving. Very quiet. Just Jon, myself, and the kiddos at Grammie and Pappa's. It was very nice. And the food was perfect! YUM! I even got up and shopped the day after Thanksgiving with two good buddies of mine (Denise and Shana). We had fun. Left here about 4:30am and drove about 45 minutes to Wenatchee. Crazy!! But it was worth it. Got some good deals and such.

Since then, just been getting decorations out and christmas stuff up.

Jake has been SO excited this year!! I put up my 3 small christmas trees and he was like, "Mom, wow! We have THREE trees?!" When I told him that we were going to be getting a bigger tree to decorate he couldn't stop talking about it until we got one! LOL He is such a doll! I sure love this time of year. Especially seeing how happy and excited Jacob is. I'm sure Aleigha will be much more interested in the season next year. This year we are just striving to keep her out of the Christmas tree and presents! Too fun! We've been to a couple holiday related activities. Jacob was able to make a couple crafts during the Mint Explosion downtown. Santa was even there, but Jake said he was too scary. So, yeah. He did see Santa during our Ward Christmas Dinner. He was VERY excited. I think it helped that he saw his friends being excited to see Santa. Aleigha didn't quite know what to think about him. Just looked him over VERY well! LOL

Jon has ONE week left of school!!! WOOHOO!!!!! We are SOOOO excited!! YEAH!! So, that's about it, for now. I will be posting pictures later.

A day and a night with Lori!!

The last Friday in October was women's retreat at Ensign ranch near Cle Elum, WA. Lori was able to come with me--we had a good time. Stayed up and scrapbooked and hung out. Good food, good conversations, all-in-all a good time! Even with Aleigha! LOL On the way back home we stopped in Ellensburg for lunch at KFC and a scrapbook store--yeah!

Halloween 2007

Ok, I know, I know...It has taken me FOREVER to update my blog--sorry. I really don't have a very good excuse. Just the usual--kids sick, tired, busy, yadda-yadda...
At Jake's preschool Halloween party, the kids painted pumpkins--even Aleigha got in there! They had a good time. Lots of games and activities. Halloween was pretty fun. Aleigha was sick so Jon stayed home with her on Halloween while I took Jake to the Tri-Ward Trunk-r' Treat and Carnival. Jake had a blast! I think he was with me a total of about 5 minutes in an hours period of time! LOL He kept flitting from place to place--just like a hummingbird! LOL One thing that was kind of cool was I won the most Creative Pumpkin Carving Award. I carved a cat face and used wire for the whiskers and ears. The pumpkin was from Phil's garden! This puppy was HUGE!!! Afterwards, we came home and Jake checked out his loot and then off to bed! My favorite time of the day! ;) Here are some pictures...

Well, we had a small birthday party for miss Aleigha and I think it turned out rather well. Jake had fun...didn't quite understand that the presents were not for him, but, he didn't do too bad for a 3 year old! LOL Aleigha enjoyed her cupcake and the wrapping paper. I think we adults had more fun watching her devour her cupcake than she did eating it! Ah, well, isn't that what first birthdays are all about, the parents, right? Next year should prove to be more interesting for her, I think.

Nothing too exciting going on around here. The kiddos and I have had a cold (mine is much worse than theirs), which isn't very fun. But thankfully I think we are almost over it. Aleigha is pretty much walking now. She is pretty cute to watch. Reminds me of Jacob when he was first walking. Jake has started preschool. Just a group of mom's from our area that has put together one. We all rotate and take turns to be the teacher and helper. He seems to be enjoying it. However, he has a tough time sitting still during circle time. Hopefully he will get better as school goes one. We shall see. Jon is down to 9 weeks left of school!! WOOHOO!!! That is pretty exciting. That light at the end of the tunnel is DEFINATELY getting bigger!!

This morning I was up and out the door by 20 to 9am! This is early for me--to actually be dressed and out the door this early is amazing! LOL Anywho, Denise, Shana, Lauren, Blake, Aleigha, and I all went to Moses Lake to the Goodwill to shop during their "Spooktacular Savings" event that started at 9am. They had TONS of costumes and decor! I wasn't sure what Jake was going to be this year, so I wanted to see what there was during this sale. Sure enough, I found 2 adorable costumes that will work for Jake. We found a Spongebob (thanks to Shana) costume that Jake will most likely wear for his preschool halloween party, and we also found a green dragon (thanks to Lori) costume that he will wear for actual Halloween (that way he stays nice and warm!). I was pretty pleased with the finds. I also found some cute Fall decorations to put up this year. I am really wanting to decorate this season. Jake is really excited about Halloween, so I think that is what is helping me have the desire to decorate. :)

Well, I think that's about it! Off to go find out what the plan is for the day!

Geocaching

Well, last weekend, Jon and Jake went geocaching with David, a friend of Jon's through Genie. They hiked up Beezley hill. They had a good time, especially Jake! He kept right up with them all the way to the top! Actually, he kept up with David all the way to the top! Jon got sick almost to the top of the hill and, so, consequently, he had to stop. Luckily, the geocache was across the trail from where he was. David and Jake thought that it was up at the top, so they kept going. Anyways, I just wanted to share the pictures that they took of their "treasure" as Jake put it! LOL Needless-to-say, he was one pooped out pup!!

So, it's been a little while since my last post. Not much has been happening around here. Jacob's being the typical 3 year old: wants his way, tantrums, hitting, jumping, no naps, constant need for my attention, pretty good big brother (when not doing first 5 things listed); and Aleigha is turning out to be quite the girl: almost walking, screaming fits, tantrums, cute as a button.

Jon is almost done with the third to his last class of his masters! YEAH! He is SOO ready to be done, but is still pluggin' away.

Let's see, one thing that is new: I was called to serve in the nursery about 3 weeks ago. I think this will be a nice change for me. I can also bring Aleigha, which is GREAT, since I really haven't been able to go to class anyway--she is WAY too noisy! It will be interesting to see how well Jake will do with me being in there. Aaand how well Aleigha will do....we shall see!

I will be posting some new pictures of the kiddos sometime soon...just took some new ones over the weekend...

OH! I just remembered! Aleigha cut 2 new teeth this weekend! Saturday morning she woke up with her two front top teeth peeking through! Hopefully, we will be getting some restful nights in for a bit! *fingers crossed*

Family Visits

Well, I am finally getting around to posting an update...only took me a couple of months...I like to be sporatic like that. ;) Anywho, my mom, my sister, AhRian, Krysten, and Ri's dog, Scout came to visit all last week. It was fun. Krysten, Ri & Scout slept outside in a tent we put up in the backyard, and Mom shared a room with Aleigha. Jake sure enjoyed playing with Scout and Krysten. And I think they sure enjoyed playing with him. Scout and Aleigha had a morning ritual that they started. Once she had her breakfast and was sat on the floor to play, Scout would proceed with running round in circles around her and barking--trying to get a reaction from her. I was hilarious to watch! I believe we even took some pictures (I will post if so) of them.
We went to Seattle on one day (note: I HATE SEATTLE TRAFFIC!!!). Went to the Space Needle (in all the 10 years I've lived in Washington I have never actually been to the Space Needle) and to the Woodland Park. We walked a lot, saw a lot, griped some, and even lost AhRian (her own doing, mind you...she didn't keep up with the main group)...but it was a great visit. Jake REALLY enjoyed the zoo. He loves animals and it was fun to see his face light up at all the different ones that were there. Krysten had always wanted to see the Space Needle, so that was pretty cool to see that happen. Made it to the Grant County Fair on another day and then we pretty much visited and hung out. I was a nice visit. Some drama, but that's to be expected when we all get together. :P
Now, we are trying to get back into a routine again. Aleigha is trying to cut 4 teeth all at once--YOUSA! So, that hasn't been to much fun. And Jake is 3. Enough said! LOL He is sweet though and it's tough trying to get used to having a little sister right at his heels all the time! She sure does want to play with him. They can be quite the pair!
Jon is now on his 3rd to his last Masters class! WOOHOO!! We can't wait until he's done. That light at the end of the tunnel is looking bigger and bigger all the time!
Well, I think that's about it for now...Jon needs to use the computer for school, so I better go!

New to this blogger thing...

OK, so, I just have to say that this is totally new to me. The concept of actually updating a "blog" every day or week is just weird to me. I have been one that occasionally will write in a journal, but NEVER faithfully. I have always wanted to be more proficient in keeping a daily journal (or at least a weekly one), but I have always fallen off the wagon. Occasionally, I will type up my goals and try and follow them...but, alas, that, too, falls by the way side. So, now. Once more. I am trying AGAIN to work on a journal of sorts. However, this will not just be about me, but about my family and the goings on in my own wonderful world of diaper changing, potty training, school, church callings, and the likes. I will, once again, strive to keep this as up-to-date as I can, but, please, know that I can promise nothing. :) Yet, I will strive to keep this updated weekly (I figure this is a LOT more doable than daily).
